The Old Vicarage Cooking School by Jonas Schäfer is situated in the very heart of our tiny Transylvanian village in the courtyard of the old vicarage.

Chef Jonas and an impressive array of Romanian and international guest chefs are looking forward to openly sharing their culinary vision and their knowledge about local produce, technique and stories behind their favorite dishes!

Further your knowledge in the kitchen in a beautiful professional kitchen and create wonderful food whilst having fun with likeminded food and wine lovers.

Our cooking classes are great experiences and are also an inspiring gift for a special person in your life - or as an activity for your special day in the Transylvanian countryside!

Valea Verde Classics

In this four hour course, Chef Jonas Schäfer will cook with you a five course tasting menu. You will prepare a small Amus Bouche followed by a starter, a soup, a delicious main course and a dessert. During this unique experience you will learn not only how to prepare these dishes but also gain a deep insight in the culinary vision of the Valea Verde and have lots of fun.

All About Truffles

In this four hour course, Chef Jonas Schäfer will introduce you to the black gold of the Trannsylvannian forest - the black truffle!
Learn all about how this wonderful delicacy has to be kept, cleaned and about the many different ways you can prepare Burgundy, Perigod or Brumale Truffles, but also gain a deep insight in the culinary vision of the Valea Verde and have lots of fun.

In this five hour course, Chef Jonas Schäfer will introduce you to the first green produce we can forage in the Transylvanian Wilderness!
Learn all about how to pick these wonderful greens in the forest and create great salads from them, cook delicious soups, make raviolis with green stuffings, make your own pesto and pickle some for your pantry at home! By doing all this you will also gain a deep insight in the culinary vision of the Valea Verde and have lots of fun.

In this four hour course, Chef Jonas Schäfer will introduce you to the craft of making sausages, rillettes and pates!
We will use our time to start from scratch creating three different fresh sausages from pork, game, and fish as well as cool a wonderfully smooth chicken liver pate and a pork rillette! Discover the great flavours of these dishes whilst also gaining a deep insight in the culinary vision of the Valea Verde and have lots of fun.

All about preserving your vegetables

In this four hour course, Chef Jonas Schäfer will introduce you to the Transylvanian traditional ways of preserving the beautiful bounty from our gardens!
We will grill and saute the freshest of local tomatoes, onions, bell peppers and eggplants to cook the delicious zacusca, eggplant salad, pickle green tomatoes, peppers and pumpkin whilst also gaining a deep insight in the culinary vision of the Valea Verde and have lots of fun.
