Personally I first came across the term “Culinary Edutainment” when I met our dear friend Roland Birr in the Cantina de Nicolae in Bucharest. Ulrike and I were invited to the house of a wonderful couple for a private dinner we very much looked forward to. Instead we were asked to hold onto our taxi and all four of us went out to a special culinary event hosted by Roland. During the course of the evening I learned for the first time the term “Culinary Edutainment”, a term defining an informative and educational culinary experience moderated by a knowledgeable host. 

The evening with Roland was a wonderful experience and since then we have surely hosted over 100 culinary events together in different countries.

At the Valea Verde Restaurant by Jonas Schäfer we host a series of themed culinary events embracing the concept of “Culinary Edutainment”. We believe that food and wine should be fun and have seen a tremendous and ever growing interest in themed weekends like our “Transylvanian Gourmet Weekend”, “Bordeaux Weekend” or our “Sparkling Weekend”. In the course of such a weekend we offer our guests the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the history, the origin and the unique aspects of the subjects we present in a fun and entertaining manner!

Another way to enjoy some great food and wine and learn more about special subjects is our “Chef's Table Experience” as well as the series of our themed “Sunday Brunches''.

Thematic Weekends

On our thematic weekends like the “Women´s Day Weekend” and others we lately also try to widen the appeal of the event from a pure culinary one to include also cultural or historical element like a roundtable discussion with a successful female entrepreneur about the challenges facing women in society,

Opening up

Another good example of our efforts to broaden the context is a talk by a well known academic and journalist on the historical impact and influences from the East on our society during “The Transylvanian Silk Road” Weekend!

However - we try to make each culinary experience at the Valea Verde memorable and fun with our special attention to personal hospitality and with Chef Jonas being present in the dining room as much as time allows ;-)
